Peaceful Fields

In peaceful fields with guns below
lies the dead who fought to and fro,
a bang of a gun a scream of strife
all of those things just for our freedom in life.

In peaceful fields with guns below
stand thousands of crosses row by row,
underneath lies the sleepless dead
who’s last goodbyes perhaps never said.

In peaceful fields with guns below
a silent sea of wild flowers glow,
for every lost soul a red poppy springs
our vow never again shall the birds not sing.
