Peace at last

A flock of birds came soaring
as the sun rose this morning,
a rare treat for many men
gunshot had ceased on the glen.

It gave them a chance to rest
most men where at their happiest,
chanting songs from the deep
whilst others could only mourn and weep.

For yesterday raged horrific war
slaughtering men from across the moor,
gun shot killing nearly every soldier
leaving each to lie and moulder.

The day was tragic
leaving the burden to those that can,
who now will fight for this freedom
a place of rest in god’s kingdom.

    Peace in death, great read.
I never understood war for peace,
logic is lost in Warlords ; )
    Nicely written!!

Your words touch! Tragic, as you say and you really bring that across.

great evocative piece, puts a picture of the Scottish/ English wars in my mind, the only thing missing are the Red coats…..
