Lightroom saves the day!

At what seems like the last possible moment, a friend from work calls me to arrange a photo shoot of her and her dog before the day is over. Willingly I told her I’d do it, and to meet me down on the beach behind my house. What I didn’t realize, (mostly because I had been sleeping all day!) is that the sun was already low on the horizon, and it might be too late by the time she arrived! She arrived just in time to get a few good shots, but I slowly began fighting the lack of lighting on a black dog! The sky was still quite bright, but the sunlight wasn’t very strong for subject lighting. I feared they wouldn’t come out.

Drive home, Opened up Lightroom. Ran some curves, ran the recovery feature, and amazing! They came out almost perfect!!! Aside from a little grain from the ISO, there was no clipping at all! Everyday this program never ceases to amaze me! I don’t even see the need for regular Photoshop anymore! Lightroom saves the day!

    oh one more thing
I have talked to ADOBE YESTERDAY and they told me if i am using CS2 and buy lightroom its not integrated into CS2 so i would have to do double job???????? true????????

So then i agree to upgrade to CS3 as it is integrated into it and buy lightroom….at the cost of $425

Unless you’re planning on doing alot of actual photo-editing and manipulation, I wouldn’t recommend spending extra money, if thats the case. I’m running CS2 at the moment. Most of my photos don’t even make it to photoshop now, unless its a landscape and i’m correcting the lens distortion.

So u suggest I just go ahead and buy lightroom ONLY….What i am trying to use it on is mostly landscape….manipulation and mainly light

I would suggest it, Yes…. however mine is still only that, a suggestion. You should evaluate the features included in CS3, and wether you need them or not. Lightroom does not come with filters and manipulation tools like Photoshop does. So if you really need those tools, then go ahead and upgrade. I wouldn’t doubt what they’re calling ‘intergration’ is nothing different than the ‘ImageReady’ addon that they did back in version 6 or 7, I got so lost in that, seemed worthless. So like I say, take a look at what you use and what you need…. but don’t base your decision purely on what I say.

Oh now we have a great discussion here brian…..I was never in favor of TC…because my work is blown into posters alk the time…ad if u wish to have 20×30 TC reduces sharpness….:)

Ahhh Yes, a TC definitely drops the sharpness a bit., on my Canon AE-1it also dropped it a stop or two and made it grainier than hell. Not a fan of them, but I also wouldn’t be a fan of getting that close to bears, especially right now when they’re fattening up for winter :D
