Uhoh! He's Coming Our Way! by Ann Van Breemen

Driving through Yellowstone National Park we stopped to photograph a Bison walking towards us. My heart jumped into my mouth when he changed direction and started heading straight for us. Luckily, once he’d reached the hard bitumen he straightened up and continued walking past. He must have been sick of walking in slushy snow. Phew! I didn’t fancy having to explain a huge dent in the car to the rental company.

Yellowstone N.P., Wyoming/Montana, USA.

Canon EOS 500D. Canon EF 100-400L IS lens.

I am an avid photographer of 60+ and will shoot just about anything, although I’m not so good at moving objects. Anything faster than a snail leaves me for dead. (haha) I do prefer natural landscapes over urban ones but, really, nothing is safe from my lens. I also enjoy turning my failed images, and there are lots, into digital art.

In 2014 I started dabbling in Fractal Art using Apophysis 7x to satisfy my creative urges on the days when I can’t take photos.

  • Thanks Ray. Not your normal type of close-up really, but I wouldn’t have wanted to get any closer to this big guy.:)

You got a good shot in before he changed direction. Certainly looks like he’s heading straight for you.

  • Thanks Kathy. The fact that he was drooling like a madman didn’t make him look any friendlier either.(lol):)

When one thinks of the Great Plains you cannot imagine not having a bison as one of the images. Thank you for sharing this in Great Plains of North America.

  • Thank you Scott. I think I’ve been very privileged to actually see these great beasts in the wild.:)
