One morning as I was going into the back yard to hang out my washing I noticed this bee just sort of hanging from a flower. On closer inspection I realised he was being held tight in the grip of a small Crab Spider. Of course I quickly went in and got my camera gear and spent the next half hour taking photos. I didn’t realise until I put the photos on the computer that there was also a tiny fly joining in the breakfast feast.
This photo won a Highly Commended award at the Sydney museums “Up Close and Spineless” comp and was in the 6 month exhibition they held of the best 50 photos of the comp.
Oh, btw, I did eventually remember to hang up the washing.
Canon EOS 350D. 90mm Macro lens. Tripod mounted. Built in flash used.
WOW Ann!!! You are one amazing photographer and I can just imagine you bowling everything and everyone out of your way to go and get the camera, and in a hurry!!!! Congratulations on your win and the length of exhibition!! That is marvelous!! And you deserve those sort of accolades too!!! :))))
Ann this is just perfect…..stunning photography!!!!!
Thank you Yool. More good luck and being in the right place at the right time, I think. I was fascinated by it as I hadn’t seen this before. That’s the great thing about macro work. All of a sudden you see things you never noticed before.:)
Wow! Fantastic capture! I’ve come across the same thing in my garden…spent ages photographing a bee being slowly sucked to death by a little white crab spider…quite gross but fascinating at the same time. Unfortunately I don’t have a macro lens so couldn’t get as close as I would’ve liked to! :)
Thank you Rebecca. Yes, nature is beautiful but cruel at the same time. You should get a macro lens. I couldn’t live without mine.:)
