I took this last December, just before New Years Eve. It was a fantastic storm season and I spent hours on the balcony, or at my bedroom window, trying to get lightning shots. I think I had just about got the hang of it when the storms stopped for the year. Bummer! However, I was lucky enough to catch this beauty as it hit the spire of the Q1 building in Surfers Paradise, Queensland, Australia.
It knocked the light out on the top of the spire and caused a short blackout throughout the whole building. I was hoping to see someone climb the spire to replace the light bulb, but alas, once more I was to be disappointed. (lol).

Canon EOS 40D. Canon EF 28-135mm IS
42 sec shutter speed.

I am an avid photographer of 60+ and will shoot just about anything, although I’m not so good at moving objects. Anything faster than a snail leaves me for dead. (haha) I do prefer natural landscapes over urban ones but, really, nothing is safe from my lens. I also enjoy turning my failed images, and there are lots, into digital art.

In 2014 I started dabbling in Fractal Art using Apophysis 7x to satisfy my creative urges on the days when I can’t take photos.

That’s cheating. You could join me out in the open, same target. I’ll hold the umbrella.

  • I think I’ll pass on that, if you don’t mind. I find I’m slightly allergic to getting hit by lightning. I’m easily shocked.(lol)

LOL at Ann, and then at Drec!! Make sure he is holding the umbrella above his head, and high!!! He might be holding it from the car with a remote control and a stick!!! :)))
