Waxwing and Late Season Berries by

Bohemian waxwings (Bombycilla garrulus, notice rufous tinged face) visit our butte from time to time scavenging for late season fruit left on the bushes and trees. They sweep in as a horde, raid the fruit, and are gone.

    Nice! They are so illusive!

I have seen ONE of them here …. he was hanging out with the robins that came in late January. As you noted; they picked off every last Russian olive and then they were gone. I guess he went with them.

  • Hello Arla, my fellow wild horse chaser! Thanks so much for stopping to enjoy this shot and comment; amazing the way the gang of birds can go through an pick the bushes/trees clean, isn’t it?!

These are some handsome birds – nice sharp supertelephoto work.

  • Hi Ken, Thanks for dropping in and your kind words. Funny, when I got the long lens, I thought it would be a snap to get used to, and it takes some practice – thanks for the pat on the back!!
