Great grey owls hunt at the bottom of our hill from time to time, and I carry the camera in the hopes of catching them. This wild beauty was right above me when I shot this – it certainly made me feel like the next mouse on the menu! Canon 40D, 100-400 IS Lens, focal length 400mm, speed 1/400, f 6.3. So, A. M. Ruttle, where’d you find this beauty? Am VERY impressed! My owl sightings have been fleeting other than for a few occasions so ’fess up to how you captured this fantastic image. Whalegeek aka G
Got lucky with a “rash” of great grey owls, but haven’t been so lucky with them lately. I guess it comes under the heading of “treasure them when you can”!

Thanks, Flowers! He was sitting on a perch right above me and I kept hoping he wouldn’t, well, you know what.

I think it’s all about the eyes. The feathers are just the frame. Great shot.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment, Phil; after seeing your portfolio, it’s a compliment to have to stop and look at this shot.
