One of my garden Hibiscus blooms by

My Hibiscus blooms are gone now with the cold weather, but they were beautiful in the summer. I took lots of photos of them so that I can enjoy them whenever I want to. On this bloom, I did some experimenting with my Aperture 3 program. I tried quite a few things and came up with this version that I like a lot. I used curves and adjusted colors mostly, plus I cloned a darker background in to make the bloom pop out.

This is the only photo editing program that I am using currently. I have PhotoShop 6 for Mac and am hoping to learn more about how to use it. I am finding it to be quite a challenge to get a handle on using it!

This photo was taken in my backyard gardens in the gulf coast area of south Texas, USA, using 105mm on my lens.

I am impressed with the beautiful photography and art work on RedBubble. I like to admire the wide range of talent and to learn from what others do and hope to keep on improving my work.

Hi Ann,..Beautiful work here,..We have some of these flowers in pots,..During the winter we bring them in side,..They usually loose their leaves from the shock,..then they start putting them back on,and in just a few weeks they start blooming again,..Really nice to look at in the dead of winter,..if you try this,Be sure to put them where they can get the most sun possible,..

  • John, thanks for your nice comment and fave. I have tried bringing the plants inside with limited luck on keeping them going. I put them beside the atrium window, but maybe it isn’t enough sun. A lot of times they survive if our winters are mild and if not, I usually just buy new ones when they come out in the spring. This hibiscus was on a tree with a twisted stem and it actually died during our severe heat this last summer. I had a lot of trouble keeping them alive and lost several of them. I hear how Oklahoma city is really in the grip of a winter storm with lots of ice and snow. Keep warm and stay safe!

So great to see some colour and life…my whole world is a big pile of white right now, although it has warmed up some for a while!

  • I took this photo last summer when the Hibiscus were their most beautiful. Later on in the summer they quit blooming and were struggling to just stay alive in our brutal heat. I lost quite a few of my Hibiscus during the heat. I appreciate your comment and glad that I could add some color to your world : )
