New Lightweight Hoodies. Great for laziness, business, or any other -ness.
These ducks are not your ordinary ducks. They fly up higher than most ducks and as you can see, they perch in high line wires and in trees. Their call is a strange sound and whistling best describes it.
ducks black bellied whistling ducks
A great capture, Ann! I have never seen a duck perch on a wire.
The are definitely different ducks! As you can see, they perch on wires, plus on rooftops and in trees. Thanks so much for your comment!
Do ducks perch? Obviously, yes. Learn something new every day.
I was so amazed when I first saw these perching ducks. I learned something new that day also! Now they are my favorite ducks : )
Have never seen anything like that before, although we did have a Canada goose build a nest in a tree a couple of years back…
I did not know that a Canada goose would build a nest in a tree either! See what we learn from each other : )
I too am amazed by this and I love the shot..
I was so surprised that day I walked outside and that black-bellied whistling duck was sitting on that wire! It looks totally out of place. I see more and more of them sitting on the wire these days. Thanks for your comment : )
Maybe he’s a Leonard Cohen fan!! What a capture!!
Thanks for your comment Susan : ). I am not familiar with Leonard Cohen. Fill me in on why the duck is a fan of his.
LOL @ Susan!! I’ve never heard of these ducks – and certainly never seen a duck on a wire (maybe Goldie Hawn and Mel Gibson would be interested in a sequel to “Bird on a Wire”). Great capture!
Thanks for your comment! I had never heard of the black-bellied whistling duck or seen one until I came upon them in a state park. I looked through bird books until I found them and I thought that their name was so unusual. Now they are one of my favorite ducks : )
Leonard Cohen recorded ‘Bird on a Wire’ in 1968….one of his signature songs ☺
Thanks for the answer to my question, now what you said above makes sense : )
I love their earth tones and their bright but odd orange beaks. They even have matching feet. LOL. Terrific capture!!
They really are interesting ducks. They are now one of my favorite ducks and I love it that they are landing nearby now for me to get to enjoy them : )
Wow! I have never seen a duck perched on a wire. Great capture.
This is one thing that a person has to see it to believe it!!! Thanks so much for the comment Paul : )
