Olive branches in a jar by Ann Mortimer

Available to buy on…

Watercolour 36×26cm Artists watercolours on Arches 140lb cold pressed paper.

Another still life made on a rainy day on my recent holiday in Spain. The finca where we were staying high in the foothills was surrounded by olive groves and I loved their gentle glaucous green foliage in the warm Autumn sunlight. I brought some in to paint.

I’m a watercolour artist and art tutor from Nottingham, UK. I love painting flowers particularly and sharing techniques with others as I really rate this wonderful medium. I have written two watercolour tips and techniques books which demonstrate the way I like to use watercolour.

So lovely. I really like the touch of magenta in the olives….really sets it off.

  • Thank you so much Marsha. They were beautiful little fruits, blushed with mauve.

So beautiful and graceful! Love this.

  • Thank you Marjorie…it was a challenge to get the olives to look natural in the jar and I liked the jar as much as the olive branches!

How lovely. Good to see someone gets some Olives on their tree. Birds always get ours before we do. This painting is wonderful. I love the jar, the olives have a wonderful shine to them and I love that you have softened the edges of some of the leaves and of course the lovely soft background.

  • Can always depend on you to have a really good look scallyart…could it be because you’re a teacher? Thank you!
