Pen and Wash sketch on 140lb watercolour paper.
We recently visited Polperro in Cornwall and this cottage set in the middle of a maze of higgledy piggledy streets caught my eye.
I haven’t posted for ages on RB and I feel strangely shy about showing you this after such a long period of not producing much work. But I will be brave!
I always enjoy pen and wash and it seemed to suit this subject perfectly.

pen, wash, watercolour, cottage, street, cornwall, polperro

I’m a watercolour artist and art tutor from Nottingham, UK. I love painting flowers particularly and sharing techniques with others as I really rate this wonderful medium. I have written two watercolour tips and techniques books which demonstrate the way I like to use watercolour.

This is just so delightful. I’ve always enjoyed ink & wash work as it’s so free & spontaneous. I think about doing it all the time until I get ready to paint something, then forget all about doing it & end up sticking with my traditional stuff. Anyway, this is beautiful so don’t be shy about sharing more paintings like this!

  • Such nice words Martha and now that’s made me want to do more pen and wash. Why don’t you join me?!
