My first painting was of my guppy fish with my brother’s model car paints on cardboard. I was raised on a dairy farm, and went to a small rural school. I took all the art classes I possibly could, but even with that was not exposed to ceramics until college. I specialized in animal studies, and landscapes done in pastels or oil.
When I attended college, I started with an animal science major and an art minor. Art was my sanity, and I completed my minor in two years, which caused me to go for a major in studio art. This was at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, They had a large ceramic studio on the bottom floor of the art building, and a professor who was a zen buddist. From him I learned to throw, and fire cone 5 glazes.
