A SOLDIERS BAGGAGE

Well I’m here again all alone
He has gone
And then I’m on the phone
He’s away on tour again
To some needy place till I do not know when?
My Family say oh never mind
Feeling they are being kind.

I am a single parent
But not by choice
My husbands always devoted
To another voice

He brings me his washing
And expects to be fed
And then later on
to please him in bed

Well here I stay
Which I am prepared to do
I do this because
I love him I do

It is quite hard
And other people say
They couldn’t cope living this way

And then some people say
“You knew what you were taking on when you got wed
to a soldier”
GOD, HOW MANY TIMES HAS THAT BEEN SAID!!?

I think it is sad
That they are always away
They miss so much
I have to say.

But married to our country
And to our queen
They must protect us all
From the nations that are mean

It’s a very difficult job
Living the army life
And even a harder one
Being an army wife

You lose your name
And become a wife of him
His number and rank
The company he is in

You put up with all the lonely wives gossip and tales
And makes you weary
Of who it entales

Some are really nice
And some I’m afraid are not
And when you get it wrong
Into your back prepared to be shot

They bring their kids to your house first thing
You’ve just got up and then your bell starts to ring
You try to ignore it
And the louder it gets you don’t answer it
And you start to regret

The very next day they come back around
And you are worn down to the ground
Then you have to insult
As they do not understand no
And that staying all day
They have to go
And that you have your own life
To live to the full
Don’t feel bad
Cause your life’s not dull

When your man finally returns
You find you always end up with carpet burns
the reason for this is below
It is a honeymoon once more
And before you know it you’re on the floor

With a lot of passion and held back lust
To the bedroom you go
You must

And the very next day
People say “will you look at that”?
There you are
Smiling like a cheshire cat.

So happy that he is there with you
But for how long? We all think we do
Until the next call out
Or course he’s to go on
You wish there wasn’t another one.
But you know this not to be true
He’s in the army
And that’s what they do
At the end of the day
We’re all a soldiers baggage
If we decide to stay.

wow! this kept my attention the whole time (leaning in toward the screen in fact!). you reveal something so many women are affected by but so few ever actually address. i really felt this, the role of a wife is too often overlooked, and the role of a soldier’s wife is something too many people take for granted. well done!! xox

  • Thanks Gretchen I’m glad you enjoyed it xx
