Thuy May by AnnieD

Our lovely guide Thuy May! A self assured Red Dzao girl, Thuy May showed us many places in and around the Sapa area. As she is unmarried, she is allowed to have long hair and doesn’t have to shave her eyebrows. The scarf, rather than the billowy head-dress, indicates her unmarried (or ’I’m available’) status.

Wow….you’ve really caught her in the most beautiful, even lighting. The skin tones are so lovely. It’s a very engaging photograph Annie…the smile and the clothing just draw the viewer in. Very well done!!!

  • Thanks Holly. Thuy May is such a lovely person and I think that shows in the photo. She is proud of being Red Dzao and eager to share her local knowledge and customs. Her mother, in the previous photo, sold us some handiwork and was also a very lovely person with a great sense of humour!

I like the description here…adds so much into this seemingly simple candid portrait of Thuy May. Good work :)
