Annie van Limbeek

Melbourne, AUSTRALIA

Hello my name is Annie and thanks for checking out my ever growing portfolio.

I graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor of Visual Art in painting at the Australian National University School of Art and have ben living in Melbourne now for just over two years, trying to establish myself as an emerging artist in Melbourne.
My aim is to create subjectively explicit work, to bridge an intimate relationship between the viewer and the work through vulnerability of self by visualizing personal views on self identity and self perception. These ideas form self portrait and figurative works in a continuing series called Self . The series is a collection of pencil drawings and mixed media pieces, imagery referenced from photographic sources taken of myself then produce these drawings intuitively, that is to say depending on the mood I am projecting through the photograph and as the artist the image as a whole or a montage of images to form something strange and thought-provoking.
I’ve found guidance and inspiration by looking at artists such as Egon Schiele, for his controversy and sensuality, but contemporaries Jenny Saville and Marlene Dumas are a major force behind my work, through executing ideas of the psychology of self image and gaining empowerment through extroversion of femininity and sexuality.
