This little bird (?species), had me worried, sitting on my decking looking ill. It allowed me to take several shots within two feet, then up and flew away quite healthily!Nikon D90. Lens 55-200mm @ 200mf/ 5.6, 1/125s, ISO 800 (very low lighting)

I think it’s a Goldfinch. Beautiful colours and lovely clear shot.
Definately a European Goldfinch. They were introduced into Australia mid 1800’s I think, and have become resident across many parts of temperate Australia, but are more common in the cooler areas.
Such a colorful and charming bird. You caught it with some much detail. We have goldfinches here too but they do not look at all like this one. I have enjoyed checking this one out.Liz
Yes – a little Goldfinch – and beautifully captured!
Aww what a beatiful little bird great capture, fav indeed,x
What a little sweety and a lovely close up
what a delightful little bird!
Lovely little fellow…absolutely delightful colours! A truly great capture. I have lots of birds around my place…sometimes they’ll hit a window and look dazed and confused for a few minutes…stunned I guess is the perfect definition…then they quickly recover and fly away. Perhaps your little friend had just experienced a similar accident to make him so placid….
It was a freezing cold early morning, he was sitting in a spot of sunshine, so perhaps just thawing out!
