I was given the number ‘7’ to illustrate.
My braining was buzzing with when I had to think of an image for this.
I also considered :
Seven slimy soporific salamanders sunbathing on sepia sand.
Seahorses won out though as they have always fascinated me since I was a child. They seem somehow magical creatures; tiny fin propelled underwater horses, friends of mermaids.
The smallest species Hippocampus denise are only 16 millimetres long!
I was saddened to read that they are an endangered species. Over 20 million of the poor little things are taken from the sea each year to be used in Asian medicine.
The wee creatures mate for life and are monogamous. If they become widowed they wait sometime before finding another partner.
The males also become pregnant and have the babies!
Hand drawn and coloured using watercolour and coloured pencils (also ink) on Bockingford watercolour paper.
