Acrylic on canvas.
Morepork: New Zealand’s native owl, Maori name (Ruru) sitting at dusk under a Punga tree.
The Morepork is New Zealand’s only surviving native owl. It is a small owl. It’s melancholy cry sounds as if it is saying “more-pork”.
A bird of the night it is often linked to the spirit world and is known as a watchful guardian. Some say they have the power to protect, warn and advise.
I have a particular fondness for owls.

It’s a beautiful painting. I didn’t realise such an owl existed! I associate “morepork” with Terry Pratchett’s Ankh-Morpork only:)
