This kitty is very like my own cat Sam (Samsara). I love the tawny, tobacco earth tones of tabbies aswell as their stripes and ring-like markings.
I bought a $1 string of pearls from the opportunity store to use as a still life prop for the pearls, to copy from.
This is the last of six small canvases I am sending into a ‘Small Packages’ exhibition. The exhibition is being held by the NZ Art Guild in November at the Bruce Mason Centre in Takapuna, Auckland, New Zealand

All canvases are the same size: 10×10 inch.

    Hi Edge-of-dreams, thank you for stopping to view and comment. I am an animal lover and have always been very fond of cats since a young child. They have such a variety of personalities and expressions that I find them a great painting subject. I dream a great deal and more often than not there is a cat in my dreams. I once went to a psychic who said she saw me in a former life painting with a cat looking at me. I normally paint with this cat at the side of me (he was snoring next to me this afternoon while I was painting this one). Best regards ~ Anni :)

    Great Job Anni, I am impressed at the detail in such a small artwork (I personally find it annoying to work on smaller sizes – at least for my color works – as I feel too cramped). but this came out lovely.

    Hello Lynette. Yes, it has been a big challenge Lynette working so small, I find it more difficult than working larger…but this was a requirement for the exhibition.     Hi Cianna, It is always interesting to see how their expressions turn out. I paint upside down sometimes when I concentrate on the detail. The ears? I used some ‘dry brush’ technique on them and it seemed to work well. I kept examining my own cat, trying to get the correct colours. Many thanks ~ hugs Anni xxx
