Place By the Sea

Place By the Sea

Acrylic on canvas 10×10 inches

Many of us have had the dream… alittle place far away from the rat race and crowds of the city. A place on a small grassy knoll over looking the ocean. Being lulled into a peaceful sleep by the wavesat night and seeing the sun rise and set over it.

This is my idea of a ‘little place by the sea’ an old sofa on the verandah to relax on and read, the sound of sea gulls as they glide on the wind currents, some small boats to take on little adventures with friends, a sanctuary.

I am painting a set of 6 small 10×10 inch canvases for a forthcoming exhibition called ‘Small Packages’ which will run in November at the Bruce Mason Centre in Takapuna, Auckland. The theme is open and all artists are from the NZ Art Guild. All paintings will be the same size.

Place By the Sea belongs to the following groups:

oh anni this is wonderful, i love it…the concept is so lovely…. the clothes on the line give movement…and there’s a whole little coastal lifestyle going on… i live near the beach, but how i would love to live right on the beach, like in your painting… wishing you a fabulous exhibition in November too…i’m sure these will be a giant hit :) xxx

  • Anni Morris replied

Hi Karin, thanks for your enthusiasm :) Yes dreams are free and why not have an image in our heads/hearts. As this was such a small canvas I couldn’t put in more detail…otherwise I would of added heaps more things…some animals for instance…but they would just look like ‘blobs’. I hope to have some more ‘secret retreats’ in future paintings. Hugs ~ Anni xxooxx

simply superb and wonderful Anni, I love the clothesline ,,and the boats just in the right place,

  • Anni Morris replied

Hi ginny…yes decided against one of those whirly clothes lines…never too fond of those. I remember reading a delightful and amusing comment once in a book. The author was saying that she wasn’t much of a gardener and the only things that grew in her garden was washing and weeds. Thank you for looking in and commenting ~ hugs Anni :)

LOL mine is a long one! 5 lines! amongst the trees, gave up props though had enough of them giving way and the clothes [mainly nappies from the kids years ago ] or out of them of course] seeing they were in the wash] landing in the dirt!

Hi Anita, in New Zealand small simple holiday homes in the country or on the coast are called ‘baches’ in the North Island ‘cribs’ in the South. They are iconic kiwi bolts holes, quite humble in construction. Rather old odds and ends of furniture inside (basic) as furnishings. The idea being to just get away from it all…be with family/friends, read, swim, fish, play and eat :) They are fast dissappearing and being replaced with very swish, expensive beach houses. Nothing swish about this one though. ~ Anni xox :)
