Title: Innocent Partner
Medium: Acrylic on stretched canvas
Size: 500mm x 600mm
2nd Prize winner in the Dunedin International Airport Art Awards
Original SOLD

This was a painting I recently finished. It was an art challenge held by the New Zealand Art Guild. Four things ha to be incorporated in an artwork, they were:
innocence, orange, umbrella and triangle.

Here is Little Red Riding Hood (the innocent) although she doesn’t look it here…with the Big Bad Wolf who has offered her shelter under his umbrella as it has started to snow again.

She is on her way to take some fruit (orange amongst them) to her elderly Grandma who lives in a cottage deep in the forest.

I wanted to interpret ‘triangle’ in the three character relationship i.e. Little Red Riding Hood, her Grandma and the Big Bad Wolf. Alternatively sections of the umbrella are triangular in shape.

Fantastic! Love the look on the wolf’s face. And I like your triangle concept too, works very well.

  • Anni Morris replied

Hi Alexandra, I sketched out a few wolf faces before this one and they ALL looked far too friendly. I decided it was the placement of the eyes…and making sure the eyes were not too large, whch resulted in a more cunning glare. Thank you ;) ~ Anni

    Enivea

While I love the foreground, it’s the background of trees I find really appealing! I don’t understand why, just do…...:-))

  • Anni Morris replied

Hello Enivea, Perhaps it is the sense of mystery about what lies back in the forest? I think snow when it has recently laid holds a certain knd of magic about it. I know when I was a child and it had snowed overnight…the next morning early there was a different kind of light through the curtains, and a stillness which is quite beautiful and difficult to put into words. Thanks you for your words and viewing this :) ~ Anni

oh ANNI, I LOVE THIS ONE!!!!! The style, concept and execution are tops!!!! how did it do in the new zeaaland challenge?

  • Anni Morris replied

Hi Nancy, thank you. I don’t know the result of the challenge yet. I did enjoy thinking and painting this one. When I was a child my early drawings were all of animals dressed up in human clothes…doing human things. I haven’t painted anything like this for years, it made a pleasant change. ~ Anni :)

  • Angela Harelson

    Angela Harelson

Anni, this is positively fantastic! Little Red has a very special place in my heart and I think the innocence comes out in her eyes. Love how the wolf has invited her to share the umbrella, what a wiley con. I also like the notion of the triangulation of characters, nicely done. The colors are marvelous, a treat to my eyes. :D

  • Anni Morris replied

Hi Angela, glad this one appeals to you :) I was thinking about the story when I painted this. I think she was called Little Red Cap originally. ~ Anni ;)
