Evergreen
Ever dreamed of sneaking away to a quiet, tranquil spot…lush vegetation, hearing the sounds of the forest and spending the day relaxing, reading a good book and having the most yummy picnic?
Well here is a little oasis I created. It looks a lot like an area of New Zealand called the Marlborough Sounds. What childhood memories are made of. The old bach (or crib)...simple holiday home with comfortable but basic living conditions. Getting away from the rat race.

Thanks cdwork, I think most of us like being next to water to relax, be it the sea, or a lake. I seldom paint landscape and thought I should give it a try. Thank you :) ~ Anni

the wonderful thing about people dropping by to see my work or leave a comment is that i always return the favour and look at theirs….. boy am i glad i did. I really like your paintings Anni so vibrant and expressive. I’ve just returned from living in Nelson for a year and a half and slated it in my journal…... nearly went mad down there. It was far too quiet for me. ................i liked Dunedin …..but too cold!! ........... love the way you’ve captured the Marlborough Sounds.
Anni Morris
Thanks for such supportive comments. Yup, it does get a wee bit chilly down here, but on a fine day the view from Latnach’s Castle over Otago harbour is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Anyway I am a hardy soul who grew up in England…was used to getting up in the morning on to cold lino and having ice inside the bedroom windows. As the Monty Python lot (the Yorkshireman) said “I had it tough”. Cheers ~ Anni
Shelleymay

Anni Morris
Thank you Rock, I always liked those picture books as a child with heaps of detail…things to discover on the page. I think the little place at the top of this picture looks a little spooky, haunted maybe. I had fun decided what to paint on the wee washing line too :) ~ Anni
Rick Todaro

Anni Morris replied
Yes. waking to the sound of bird song, living the simple life of no cell phones, pc’s or tv’s…just a bookcase full of foxed paperbacks, a few board games and pottering around the bush and lakeside. When time stands still (sigh). A guy from Christchurch bought this, as it reminded him of his favourite place in the Marlborough Sounds. Thanks ~ Anni :)
Mikyle
You’ve captured the idea of “just getting away” perfectly. You can really feel it.
I love your use of colour in this painting, and how the misty jungle in the background draws you in.
Anni Morris replied
Hi Mikyle, ah yes finding a quiet, tranquil haven where there are no pc’s, cell phones, or tvs…just old faded paperbacks at least 20 years old and well-worn board games. In reality I know I wouldn’t like to be without my pc for more than 4 days…I don’t have a cellphone I have to admit. There is something to be said for the simple pleasures in life, going for a walk and actually looking at what is around us…birds in the forest their calls, finding shells and treasures on a sea shore etc… Thanks for stopping by ;) ~ Anni
Mikyle
I so agree! I live on a farm where we don’t have a tv, computer, or anything like that, and I absolutely wouldn’t have it any other way!
I actually just arrived in London 2 days ago, so your painting took me back into the wild, away from the hustle and bustle of city life and people, and reminded me somewhat of home… Going for a walk in the forest or on a deserted beach would be so fantastic right now!
Anni Morris
London was my old territory…commuting like a sardine (without the oil)...riding the double deckers etc… visiting the markets, shopping (or window shopping) in Liberty’s- Regent Street, choosing cheese in Selfridges Food Hall, browsing around Covent Garden…enjoy what it has to offer ;) ~ Anni
