I like to call myself an artist and photographer. My work includes traditional imagery as well as contemporary, with the extension of the traditional into art. This latter field encapsulates a sensory response to nature, is impressionistic in style and promotes an essence of place rather than a recorded documentary. I am heavily influenced by the environment and am attracted by light, shade, relationships, colour, texture and form.
I like to think my images invoke a sense of rhythm and can be aligned with nature and the seasons, providing continuance rather than closure. I am also attracted to photo-journalism recording in still images, events that have a sense of time and place with a story that is about culture and lifestyle.
Tasmanian born, I have my own affinity with the island. I have travelled many places within mainland Australia, living nine years in Darwin. For me, Tasmania is my home and will always be my inspiration.
I am mostly self-taught. Learning as a child from my father the rudiments of composition, camera techniques and darkroom skills. I use the camera as a tool to develop my art rather than a paintbrush. My work is captured entirely in the camera on site with minimal modifications to the images digitally.
I have won awards for my traditional imagery, both nationally and internationally with two solo exhibitions of impressionist artwork in my home town. I love all things photographically and see the world through photographic eyes.
Other images of mine can be seen on these sites
