Elisha and the Shunammite Woman 2 Kings 4:8-37
This is a painting and a story about a wealthy woman who built a room on her house for Elisha a Man of God.
A story of a Shunammite woman who had not only a wealthy lifestyle and husband but she had faith and strong convictions. Elisha was so pleased he had a place to stay as he traveled from one town to the next that he asked his servant what can I do for this woman to bless her. Gehazi the servant suggested, the only thing she does not have is a son and her husband is elderly. Back then it was a considered very important to have children especially a son. So the man of God calls the woman and told her next year you will hold a son in your arms. Sure enough the woman gave birth to a son and he grew but one day as he was helping his father out in the fields he grew ill. The servants brought him back to his mother to care for him. The boy sat with her until noon and died. So she called her husband and told him to send servants for she had to go and see the man of God. The husband was confused as to why she was doing this. But she said “all is well” she did not want to worry her husband and she knew she needed the man of God. She had faith in him to restore what he had given her despite the circumstances. What a positive confession of believing she maintained. Long story short, she reaches Elisha and he sees her distress. He sends his servant to rush to the child and they follow. You really must read it straight from the Bible how she confronts the man of God about the gift he had given her…this son. Elisha went up to his room where she had laid the child and he turned in earnest to God in prayer for the restoration of the boy’s life. The woman’s son was restored to life. And she fell at the feet of the Man of God acknowledging the greatness of his God.
