Blinded By the Light
Saul was still breathing out murderous threats and persecuting the family of God. (Acts 9.)The Christians back then were called those who belonged to the “Way”. This is because they were followers of Jesus Christ. He was/is the way, the truth and the light. Saul was raised a strict Pharisee, a Jewish sect which was guided by rules and traditions. They were not guided by the grace of God nor open to the work of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Pharisees appeared righteous to men but inside they were hypocrites. Saul was zealous for God but he was not listening to God. Saul was going to Damascus which is in Syria. As Saul was traveling there, suddenly a light from heaven flashed all around him, knocking him off his horse. He heard a voice from heaven speaking to him. “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? Who are you Lord, Saul said? I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. Now get up and go into the city and I will tell you what you are to do.
The men traveling with him saw the light and heard voices but did not understand what was said. When Saul got up he was blind and had to be lead to the place he was told to wait.
