I really needed to take a break from the Tarot, and get back to my roots as a painter. Seascapes are where my heart lies.

This image depicts two tall ships in the stormy evening light, racing towards the finish line at the end of a long race.

The Tall Ships’ Races are races for sail training “tall ships” (sailing ships). The races are designed to encourage international friendship and training for young people in the art of sailing. The races are held annually in European waters and consists of two racing legs of several hundred nautical miles, and a “cruise in company” between the legs. Over one half (fifty-percent) of the crew of each ship participating in the races must consist of young people.

It was composed in Photoshop CS4, and consists of over 100 layers of images, painting and textures.

The hardest part, as with all seascapes was cutting around all the rigging on the ships!

All the images used here are from my own stock, except for the tall ships.
Ships

Tho only song in my head whilst I was creating this, was Rod Stewart singing ‘I am Sailing’. The words and music are beautiful and it depicts the feelings that the sailors must have after a long and difficult voyage.

I am sailing, I am sailing.
home again, ’cross the sea.

I am sailing stormy waters
To be near you, to be free

I am flying, I am flying
Like a bird ’cross the sky
I am flying, passing high clouds
To be with you, to be free

Can you hear me, can you hear me
through the dark night far away
I am dying, forever trying
To be with you, who can say

We are sailing, we are sailing
Home again ’cross the sea
We are sailing stormy waters
To be near you, to be free
