muddy eyes - an ikon by

acrylics, inks, for eyes: spit/saliva(my own) and dirt from backyard mixed with some pva glue, on canvas 75×60 cm

another sp?
relates to the bible scripture where Jesus heals the blind man …smearing over his eyes a paste made out of spit and dirt
one of those passages in bible which really does call for some ‘lateral thinking’
not surprisingly the final stage of ‘gestation’ of this image came by being given to read a book called “Muddy Spirituality” (in this book Jon Owen gives a very succinct distinction between what is icon and what is idol : icon being an image leading to God while idol being an image leading to it’s self only)
I am myself surprised by rather ‘sombre’ look of this picture and yet I did not mean it to be a sad, distressing image – just true
it’s about impossibility of seeing the “divine” in our lives in some safe sanitised way – it’s never “clean” … it’s always dirty, sweaty, muddy …… simply real …. and yet – divine

About annamora

hhhhhmmmmm ….. all my works are for sale as RB products, I just really dislike that red button which says ‘buy it’ straight under my work …. so I took it off on most of them by now … but if you’d really like to buy print of any of my work, let me know and I will fix it …….

What a lovely work Anna, there is seems to be a feeling of resignation or acceptance with a deeper underlying emotive force…

donnamalone used the word pure, and I think that’s perfect. I think your notes on this are right on with purity, that seeing the divine is ‘unsafe’ because it requires a giving up comfort, as in the same old story, and reaching for new visions…which is never easy. So I love the reaching this painting does.

I love the palette you use in all your paintings. That palette is your heart.
