acrylic and charcoal on paper A3 size …. this small work was inspired by thinking about the painting ‘Return of the Prodigal son’ by Rembrandt … and the brilliant essay written about this painting by Henry Nouwen (apologies for placing a wrong reference here before – this is a corrected version) … it made me consider the notions of “guilt” as I see it myself in my life … it made me remember one incident when I was a little girl ……once i felt guilty for breaking a little ceramic decoration … with all sincerity I went and have offered my parents the means of my punishment …. which in turn shocked them at first and straight after made them see the “light side” …..
I shall return and give you a heartfelt view of this work. Incredible.. I don’t even want to read the side bar cause there is something calling me here. What amazing texture and layers here.
Great work! my mother says, “a little guilt never hurt anyone”, I say guilt can have harmful, lasting effects on a child’s emotional being. This piece hits me right in the heart. I have to read the essay you mentioned. Excellent!!
… yes …I am not trying to give any solutions or answers here … I myself still do not know how to deal with this issue of ‘guilt’ …. it seems to change over time …. it is such a complex thing …. I agree with you that ungrounded of purposefully imposed guilt can have devastating effects … on the other hand to feel guilt as a result of something what deserves it must be a good way to improvement if all is functioning healthy……

Then this is more about the guilt of the parents. Excellent work.
… yes … that is also right … I am a parent now …… :))
… as a mother I ‘mirror’ my children … they see themselves partially through my eyes too …
