7 deadly sins - anger
mixed media ( metallic acrylic paint, acrylic printing ink, inks) on wash&draw paper A3
.. inspired by conversation with DAMcD and some Roy Skogvold’s works
.. visual contemplation on the nature of ‘sin’ as being an integral part of our human make up … symbolism of gold colour to accentuate the preciousness ( preciousness of the perceived value we often attach to our sinful preoccupations as well as preciousness intended for our bodies) ... bright colors for a loving design … blots and drips to symbolize the tainting of the otherwise perfect relationship between the Creator and the Creature …...
... there is a traditional categorization of sins … these days perhaps rather outdated by realization that sin as such does not really hold some exact categories …. nevertheless I am upholding – very loosely – these categories for the sake of series of images on this theme …. armed with my sons ‘atlas of human anatomy’ .... looking more closely and lovingly onto “the clay” we are all made up of …..

I love the use of the gold in these works … highlights the feeling of looking at old religious works yet marred by the stains … those sins that take a hold … truth is both beauty and a double edged sword … thank you for such lovely work … Lisa

This just grabs me in ways I can’t precisely explain, thank you for making me feel this perplexed excitement!
annamora replied
... this is my personal favourite from this series …. I think for me it is the familiar image of the embryo photograph being somehow ‘transfigured” by being hand painted in realistic but still fairly ‘free flowing’ manner ….. together with the gold and purplish background ..that does it …. thank you so dearly
Gili Orr
I like it a lot, though I don’t see anger but rather pain and fear. Well, perhaps it’s a personal matter… I rarely feel anger, but I know a lot about pain and fear;-)
annamora replied
yes .. I knew this is a very loose connection … more like saying that the baby-embryo is innocent but the anger is already encoded in it’s make up ….. and i think i am same like you in – rarely feel anger but know about pain and fear … so it must show … :) ... I am very thankful for your understanding …. :)
Gili Orr
Well, anger is a reaction to pain and fear, I guess… when you feel you don’t deserve them and someone is probably to blame;-) I feel your embryo takes the responsibility and is perhaps angry at itself, if at anyone…
annamora replied
you are so right Gilli ….. it amazes me that you can read it so well … I did not mean to reveal such things of course … but art is always some sort of ‘release’ isn’t it ?
Gili Orr
I could read it because that’s the way I am, too;-) and art tells a lot, indeed…
