7 deadly sins - greed

mixed media on wash&draw paper A3

.. inspired by conversation with DAMcD and some Roy Skogvold’s works
.. visual contemplation on the nature of ‘sin’ as being an integral part of our human make up … symbolism of gold / silver colour to accentuate the preciousness ( preciousness of the perceived value we often attach to our sinful preoccupations as well as preciousness intended for our bodies) ... bright colors for a loving design … blots and drips to symbolize the tainting of the otherwise perfect relationship between the Creator and the Creature …...
... there is a traditional categorization of sins … these days perhaps rather outdated by realization that sin as such does not really hold some exact categories …. nevertheless I am upholding – very loosely – these categories for the sake of series of images on this theme …. armed with my sons ‘atlas of human anatomy’ .... looking more closely and lovingly onto “the clay” we are all made up of …..

A wonderful depiction Anna of greed. The seven deadly sins make for some very interesting artwork, I am enjoying viewing them and how you interpret each one ~ Anni

  • annamora replied

..thank you, Anni … this is something I needed to hear/ was wishing to hear …. the interpretation is very loose and so it does give more sense once they can be seen in a series …

There’s a demographic that loves this on a T-shirt! I’m rather ‘envious’ of your highly expressive and meaningful depiction. Fantastic techniques for all of them too. I’m stuck on my commission cos I’m supposed to not be too serious about it. But this is what it is. Well done Anna, looking forward to the rest.

Strangely, I feel really inspired right now, and I’m getting into the ‘silly’ side of it. I think you’ve covered this angle really well. Like I usually want to do the opposite of anothers take anyway. Thanks Anna. Oh, and for the link, that’s nice.

Excellent effect, Anna. This art, reminds me of those horror graphic novels.
The rocks the crumbling pseudo skull and teeth, are superb symbolic of change and decay.
