Artist's Description

This is an original artwork on white paper. The artwork is a collage made with fabric and paper. I have used paper from an old atlas which had a blue screenprint on it of a cityscape and attached it to the artwork with orange and white stitching. I have also used Japanese paper, stitched onto atlas paper with red thread then stitched it onto the paper with white thread. I also attached a small square of dark denim stitched to the paper with orange stitch. I have used a sewing machine to attached the paper and fabric to the paper.

Stitching has been a big part of my artwork since I completed my Fine Art Degree in 2001 and I enjoy the line work achieved by a sewing machine. I enjoy making these collages and finding interesting fabrics, paper and sections of my own artwork to create the piece. I spend a lot of time thinking about the composition of the work and how each piece is related to one another.
