    The combination of the picture’s grand exhibitionism – the colors, angles, costume, etc. – and the woman’s self-concealment high and low – create a dramatic ambivalence, or, better, an engrossing, rousing counterpointing of elements.

    It’s like the picture overall is saying Look At Me, and the woman is saying Don’t You Dare. Unless she’s really saying look but don’t touch. Or maybe she’s saying, with slyness, do both.
