Artist's Description

Original Ink Drawing by Anita Inverarity

First in a set of three works to celebrate “International Womens Day”

This one is depicting at once the anxiety and sometimes isolation of pregancy with also the anticipation and hope of a “safe passage”. It was inspired by the celtic deity Macha and one of her guises often associated with the swan who protects women on their journey through childbirth. She was a bit tempramental though if wronged and once put a curse on a village where all the men were made to feel the pains of labour (oucha).
