The Selkie is a Scottish Water Sprite who splashes unsuspecting passers by from rock pools and lochs- she is mischeivous and alluring. The sea Selkie comes in the guise of a seal and seduces sailors with her big brown eyes.

this is lovely makes me think of the irish folk lore of the silkie where seals can come on to land and change into female form

Yes I think there are all sorts of Celtic variants- In Scotland they hide in Rock Pools and mischeiviously splash you.
