Watch This Space Exhibition- Aberdeen Artists Society
39 Justice Street- Aberdeen
11th Feb- 31st March
Open Wednesdays and Saturdays 12-4pm
In addition to their annual show at Aberdeen Art Gallery, Aberdeen Artists Society (est. 1827) will be hosting exhibitions from their new premises on Justice Street (just down the road from Peacocks Visual Arts on the same side nr the Castlegate- the shop used to be the Polish Bakery)
Opening times are currently limited but already this is becoming one of the best places to see new works by local artists & purchase affordable original pieces. Not to be missed !! I have completed 2 brand new works for the show.

Rosie Thistles Tea Room
I am delighted to announce a new outlet for my works. Now showing at the beautiful Rosie Thistles Tearoom on Thistle Steet directly across from Gallery Heinzel. The cafe is also being refurbished & expanded at the moment to offer more table space (this should be complete in March) You can enjoy a wide range of teas/coffess, fine bakes & their gorgeous cupcakes, as well as a great homemade lunch menu with gluten free options. Its a delightful & friendly tearoom experience, so do pop by regularly to see whats new next time you are in town.
I have mainly originals displayed there along with some limited edition signed prints- Work is rotated to keep things fresh.

Little Rembrandts Cafe
The newly opened Little Rembrandts on Crown Street is a family friendly venue for coffee and chat, light lunches and take away orders. They provide painting tables to occupy the children so busy parents can have a relaxed break. The upstairs diner provides a quieter spot, away from the action. All produce is sourced locally and prices are very reasonable.
I have been working on some “childrens” themed art and whimsical pieces lately and was unsure of where to show them, so was delighted when I heard the cafe were looking for some art and that they had been trying to get in touch with me (having seen my work elsewhere).
The collection I have displayed is ideal for baby showers, nurseries and playrooms but there are some which are ideal for the young at heart too and for “Valentines Day”. The pieces are all under £ 100 for a framed original work.

Exhibitions Coming Soon
This year sees the return of the charity exhibition “Cranes” which raises money for North East cancer charities in March and the hugely popular Deeside Artists Annual Exhibition will be returning to their “home” at the Banchory Scout Hut in April. The Forecourt Art Group are also planning a big expo after recieving a grant from “Vibrant Aberdeen”. I will post more details in my next newsletter so watch this space.

I have also been accepted onto the artist roster at Junction Arts & Crafts. This delightful little gallery on Holburn Street offers an electic mix of works from Aberdeen artists and crafters and is a great outlet for affordable fine art and gifts. The gallery also offers a bespoke framing service. Dates for my first showing at The Junction will be announced a bit later in the year but for now their first exhibition of 2012 showcases local landscapes & includes work by Pearl Ozanne, Doreen Bothwell & Debbie Neill. The exhibition starts on the 11th of Feb. To keep up with news visit the website and subsribe to their Newsletter Here

Collaborations
I’ve been having fun collaborating with a couple of great writers this month. Louise Maughan writes children’s verse with a sweet & slightly dark twist. I have been sitting on some of her “Horrible Recipes” works for just over a year & it was great to eventually start something. I have so far created four illustrations for her first verse in the series. Here’s a sneak peek (the title is my own and is inspired by the writing although not in direct relation to Louise’s poem).
The Midnight Mouse Memorial

Joak has been entertaining us “redbubblers” with his Scots dialect and humour laden stories for some time. His writing never fails to bring a smile and I was really chuffed when he wrote an epic “story” verse to go with my “Hayleys Heeland Coo”. This led to further collaborations for my "Quirky Quines series. We are now aiming for a book !! Here are the first 3 poems for you to enjoy….

New Works
This months piece for my “Inked Icons” series is PJ Harvey. These portraits are on hold for a planned exhibition but prints & cards are available by clicking on the link. There will be a mixture of sizes but this one is A3 and I used a 70’s Spirograph to create the florals which was great fun. I am currently working on a White Stripes duo of works featuring Jack White & Meg White.
