This drawing was inspired by a photograph of Alexandra Felgate. Kindly used with permission as part of the Bubblers portraits group.
I did not try for a true likeness this time, but rather an essence I hope (hence the title). It seemed appropriate to use as part of my Asian series as Alexandra’s detailed and delicate paintings/drawings always remind me of Japanese Art. I hope to use the reference picture again.

    I like it a lot….even though your own style always shows through….I like that you didn’t go for an exact likeness, I think the essence idea worked really well in this and it REALLY shows off your style.

    Your character here reminds me of the wonderful animation of the 1970’s by someone called Richard Williams – he did an animated film of A Christmas Carol.
    The faces are full of character and maturity – somewhere between portrait and cartoon and leaning towards a portrait. The animated films of the 70’s were educational, full of atmosphere, and well drawn characters.
    I see your fave butterflies ‘sneak in’ as a guest appearance. Well Done Anita xx
