“If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has the power to move you, if the simplest things in nature have a message you understand, Rejoice, for your soul is alive.” ~Eleanora Duse, Italian actress 1858-1924
This is the flower of a roadside weed that I photographed early one morning on a walk. These weeds grow profusely in the harshest of conditions along roadways and in dry fields. They thrive in July and August when most things are drying up. The blue contrasts beautifully with mauve and beige grass, and white Queen Anne’s Lace, which is also in bloom at this time of year. I find them lovely, and hope you enjoy my view of an often overlooked beauty.
