Return Once More

Birds singing in shadows,
Small creatures rustling in the leaves,
Light filtering through cobwebs
Holding fast to decaying walls and fragile beams

Silence is descending on what once was
A shelter to life and dreams,
Soon it will be gone forever,
Without so much as a goodbye, it seems.~Angie Davies

This is a window in a beautiful old abandoned bank barn in Gettysburg, Pa.USA just outside the battlefield perimeters. Many historic barns in our area have been restored, but for some reason this one is in decay with no apparent hope for restoration. Its plight seems symbolic of the difficulties of the family farm in our country, and that way of life.

  • A couple of items of interest in this photograph; in the third pane down on the left can be seen a handprint, and in the fourth pane down on the right is what appears to be a face, which looks more like a chimp than a human. I believe the face is due to the trunk of an old tree outside the window. Also, in the broken section of window, third pane down on left is the shape of a cat’s head with one ear showing.

I am a photographer who loves to paint. Or, I am a painter who loves photography? No matter, they are very compatible! :) I really enjoy working in watercolor, and love the magical qualities that it can give to a work of art! You will see photography, watercolor and acrylic paintings on my bubble. Hope you enjoy! :)

Nice shot, Angie. I love the old buildings and love to see them kept and restored! I think it is a huge mistake to let corporations take over our food basket.
Already they are finding the pesticides spliced into corn and other GMO’s in peoples bloodstream. This is messing with DNA big time.

  • So right Marriet. I think in time people will begin to garden more and create some of their own food supply. The heirloom tomatoes are so much better than the genetically altered ones as an example. Thanks for the fave and commenting!!!!

Lovely! I find this shot to be very appealing…makes me think of when I was younger and would play in out-buildings on old farms. Lots of fun! :)

  • Yes, old buildings are fun to explore. You just have to watch out for spiders, mice, and snakes! Thanks so much for the fave and nice comment!!!!
