FEATURED in Barns and Old Grist Mills & Covered Bridges from Around the World in June 2010
This type of barn is so rare in the United States that The National Trust for Historic Preservation is protecting most of them. It is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the orchard country of Biglerville, Pa. USA, famous for apples and other tree fruits. The round barn, also called a “barrel barn,” was built in 1914 by the Noah Sheely family. The circumfrence of the barn is 282’, and the diameter is 87’. (Canon Power Shot S51S)
I am a photographer who loves to paint. Or, I am a painter who loves photography? No matter, they are very compatible! :) I really enjoy working in watercolor, and love the magical qualities that it can give to a work of art! You will see photography, watercolor and acrylic paintings on my bubble. Hope you enjoy! :)

Wow, what a fantastic building, fave …
Thanks Tom! It is an incredible barn! We now have a winery that sits on a huge hill above this barn and surrounding orchards, vinyards and farmland. It is an incredible view from their patio!

That is one huge barn! Amazing sight! Thanks for sharing this, I love it! I have to look up your area, can’t be that far from me, and the name Sheely was very popular her as well in the farming and orchard industry!
Perhaps the Sheelys are relatives of the ones in your area. Yes, you would enjoy touring this old barn and surrounding countryside. In autumn, it is really picturesque with pumpkins, apples and mums for sale around it, and in it. There is a lovely winery on a nearby hill which gives some wonderful views. Thanks for the fave!
