My Girl by AngieBel

I love taking up-close-and-personal portraits in natural light….it’s how I first found my way into the amazing world of Photography. But, my only subjects are my girls (Kaitlin & Amelie) and I don’t post them on here because (just for me personally) it would feel self-indulgent & I think it would make for a very boring Portfolio to anyone who is not a member of my family – though certainly my PF would be bigger than it is right now! I only like to have one shot each of them on here at any given time.

However…yesterday, being New Years Eve 2008, Kate (9) asked me to take some shots of her, and that we make it a NYE tradition so that she can compare images from year to year to see how she has changed. I was more than happy to oblige…unlike my other reluctant and fake-smiling daughter, she is an absolute delight to shoot.

What a lovely happy face! Gorgeous eyes, and love the way the hair is blurred. Makes my new year feel a little brighter……

  • Yes, yes…I did the hair blurring on purpose ;-). She’s reading these comments on her computer, and liked yours very much! Thank you

Awesome work. Maybe would have liked a little more on the Left Hand side, but thats being really picky. otherwise well done. DOF is spot on, and it shows in the most important part… the eyes

  • Well thank you for being ‘really picky’ Marcus ;) I agree, it is most definitely right-side heavy, but I was just snapping away while we talked and this one was just her. While I had shots that were more technically strong, when it comes to photographing my 2, it is more about capturing their ‘essence’ and the memories (in this case the hat which is quite the fave at the moment but I’m sure will be forgotten by this time next year). I’m glad you like it anyway! Happy New Year dude, see you soon :)

Great portrait of your naturally smiling daughter. There is fine detail in your capture, and your daughter with her smile is just a delight to look at. Excellent work. And happy New Year! – Cora

I was just looking at your front page and try a square crop (same as thumbnail preview thingy)

  • Great minds think alike…I’ve been thinking the same thing. Maybe a project for later tonight. (yep…I’m so holiday lazy right now that cropping a photo constitutes a ‘project’!!!)

Cool… whats the prize. Although I cant take all the credit. Redbubble did the crop!

  • There you go…is that better?! It’s a ‘long square’ (!!) tho…like I said, the hat’s important – not willing to crop too much of that away.
Mmm…now a prize…I’ll be your partner for a Singstar session one day :) Trust me…you’ll be grateful. I rock!!!
