Intense Passion
The last of my Passionflower series (for this Summer anyway!)...this one is my favourite. The amazing tri-coloured petals and intricate stamen captivate me.
Thanks to my gorgeous sister Kristyn who knew where to source one of these and gave it to me on Christmas Day. It was worth passing up the evening meal to shoot!

Lilikoi
We have one growing on our fence in our back garden. This is beautiful!
While there are over 500 species of Passiflora only one of the species can be called passion fruit. Within this species (Sims) there are two distinct types of passion fruit, one that produces a purple skinned fruit and another, pictured here, that produces a yellow skinned fruit. In Hawai’i the two varieties are commonly called purple Liliko’i and yellow Liliko’i. Because the purple variety is subtropical while the yellow variety is tropical, Hawai’i tends to possess more of the yellow than purple Liliko’i
AngieBel replied
Thanks for that info Sharon, and your lovely comment above. The pics in the link you sent are of another species that I shot recently and posted here. They are all so beautiful and interesting and I’m sure they do very well there in Hawaii!

WOW yourself!!! I’m so happy that you’re impressed given how long I’ve been sitting on this shot and you’ve been telling me to get off it :) These little beauties are so exotic that they pretty much take care of being interesting all on their own, but I’m glad you like my composition. I have a photo of a passion flower, but no way is it this intense. Just used a little Kodak EasyShare, that was my first camera, till it got to wet in a shoot in Oregon and then I got my Canon, but still dont have the lens for such wonderful macro’s.
AngieBel replied
Yes, the intensity of the color varies a lot. And don’t despair: I’ve seen LOTS of wonderful macros taken without a dedicated macro lens! Thank you so very much!
cas slater

These are lovely, my neighbour used to grow them. Wish she would again.Great image.
AngieBel replied
Maybe you should plants some?! That’s what I’ve done this year…figured I can’t go on picking them off fences & exterior walls as I walk past people’s homes for too much longer: sooner or later someone’s going to yell at me! Thank you for you nice words!
Robert C. Lee
great shot, i love these flowers as my parents own a passionfruit farm and there place looks awesome when these flowers bloom in huge numbers. great shot and i like how you cropped the image, well done
AngieBel replied
They ARE amazing aren’t they?! Your parents own a passionfruit farm?! Lucky I don’t live anywhere in their general vicinity: I’d be forever annoying them with requests to go onto the property: I would never tire of shooting these beauties! Glad you like how I composed the shot …ahh the joys of macro lens! Thank you for your lovely Comment!
