    Thanks for you lovely comments Rachel! I hope Santa comes through for you…that lens has my heart! Always a photo-opportunity when you have that one – you don’t even need to leave your house! Just make sure (if you don’t already have them) that Santa also brings you a tripod and remote switch! :)

    I already have a tripod, albeit an old and heavy one. Not a problem if I’m just in the house/neighborhood, but lugging it around on a hike, ugh. What kind do you have and do you like it? I bought a Canon remote when I bought my camera but for some reason haven’t used it, could be because I’ve misplaced it somewhere in my house. Grrr… must find!

    Your old one would probably be fine if you’re just at home, as long as it takes the weight of your camera and lens easily. I have a Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod with the Manfrotto 322RC2 ball- head: love them both! something else for your wishlist! :)

    Oh, you’re so kind Steven! I love macro work: not only because of what it reveals that the eye can’t see, but because it means this often housebound mother of 2 can shoot in her living room (and in her jammies….shhh!)

    GREAT decision…you won’t regret it! I found it to be a huge learning curve, but then again, I am quite a newbie and was even more so when I started using it a year ago. Have fun! A macro lens opens up a whole new ‘photographic world’. Can’t wait to see the shots you take with it :)

    I’m glad you like this one Steve…this one was the real start of my love affair with macros.
    I’m not out shooting today :( soon though I hope…but I’d like to start broadening my horizons a bit and get a good landscape or seascape. Gives me something to work towards!

    Superb macro work! The offset composition is perfect.

    Hey, I just read your tripod comments above. My husband gave me a gift of a Wimberley II tripod head. It is SWEEEEEEET! It’s great with my long Tamron 180mm macro but it’s fantastic with the heavy, long Canon 100-400mm that I often use. I had too much drift with other heads but this one is a dream. Only mentioned it in case you ever find your Manfrotto head gives up on you.
