I am a multimedia artist from the Philippines.
I have coined the term Filtrograph. Derived from the words filter (filter) and photograph, Filtrograph involves photo manipulation with an effect that goes beyond pop art.
After leaving my over 13-year stint as university administrative work in 2006 to pursue my lifelong interest, I discovered computer art as a new art form. As such, my present passion is to render a retro pop look on original digital photos I take.. My images evoke a touch of Andy Warhol and Piero Fornasetti, two significant sources of inspiration of my artworks.
Long before I have found interest in computer art and photo manipulation, I have been passionate about oil paint, water color, pastel, and paper collage. My early works found their way into various shows held here and abroad.
My watercolor arts were shown in “Pira-pirasong Buo”, by Artista ng Bahay Sining, April 3-30, 1994, Shakey’s Imus. My paper collages were sent and showcased in “Budhi: Faces and Scenes from the Philippines (Gesichter Und Szenen Von Den Philippinen”, art exhibitions in Germany, Belgium, and Austria, April 25 – May 1, 1995 under the auspices of the New Filipino-German Association e.V.).
I also joined friends Orlando Oliveros and Fred Agustin in “Beginnings”, February, 2002, Aklatang Emilio Aguinaldo, De La Salle University-Dasmariñas. I even placed third in deviantart.com’s Show Me Your Hometown Photo Contest with my photo collage entitled Imus: Preserving the Past; Embracing the Future, in September, 2007.
My Filtrographs were first seen in Klub Natur’s shows at the First Philippine International Flora and Fauna Garden Exposition, July 18-20, 2008, World Trade Center, Roxas Blvd, Pasay City and at the 16th Construction Show Manila (Manilacon 08) September 4-7, 2008, at the SMX Convention, Mall of Asia, Pasay City.
I initially drew my inspiration from Simon Saulog, the master of the Filipino mother-and-child themes in the 50s. I started out doing traditional art and dabbled in photography and creative writing. I now do experimental art involving various media as a hobby.
“Filtrographs by Angelo J. Aguinaldo”, my first one-man show held at my great grand dad’s home and the home of Philippine Independence from November 20 to December 6, 2008 is a baby step in rekindling a lifelong endeavor. As I go on to rediscover new media, Filtrograph, for now, is my contribution to the art scene.

The sea went farther and farther as I see fisher folks relocate their bancas or fishing boats to the nearest point along the coast of Binakayan, Kawit, Cavite (Philippines). With the ongoing construct…
