Lindisfarne Priory, Holy Island by

The monastery on Holy Island was originally founded by St Aidan in 635 AD, becoming a place of Christian pilgrimage associated with St Cuthbert. Unfortunately the wealth of the monastery also made it a target for Viking raids during the 8th Century, forcing the monks to eventually abandon the site. A monastery was re-established in the 12th Century, surviving until its dissolution by Henry VIII in 1537.

A very special and magical place to visit, reached by a causeway which is submerged at high tide.
