Artist's Description

Mont Orgueil, or Gorey Castle as it is popularly known, sits on the east coast of the tiny island of Jersey, in La baie de Saint-Malo. It was built in the 13th century as the island’s main defence against the French, whose coastline is only 14 miles away.
Mont Orgueil (Mount Pride) was an ideal location for the castle – protected by sea and cliffs on three sides and the granite of the Mount meant that the castle was virtually impossible to undermine.
