W & N watercolor on Bockingford watercolor paper 12″ × 9″

Once a week I run a painting workshop for senior citizens. My students are enthusiastic, lively and say it as it is. When I came across this piece of writing on the web I new I would have to create something for it and share it with you. Enjoy!!

You’ve just got to love this senior moment!!!!

A very self-important college freshman was attending a recent football game. He took it upon himself to explain to a senior citizen sitting next to him why it was impossible for the older generation to understand his generation.

‘You grew up in a different world, actually an almost primitive one,’ the student said, loud enough for many of those nearby to hear. ‘The young people of today grew up with television, jet planes, space travel, man walking on the moon, our spaceships have visited Mars. We have nuclear energy, electric and hydrogen cars, computers with light-speed processing, and….,’ pausing to take another drink of beer.

The Senior took advantage of the break in the student’s litany and said, ’You’re right, son. We didn’t have those things when we were young…. so we invented them.

Now, you arrogant little shithead what are you doing for the next generation?’

The applause was deafening. I just love senior citizens!!!

Fabulous ‘words of wisdom’ dear Angie .. gave me a huge giggle as did the narrative in YOUR image, beautiful and a well deserved aknowledgment to those bright sparks who set the scene for today! I have great respect for the older generation xx

  • Thank you Tainia. Im still having a giggle about it. Although some of my art students have dementia and other conditions it is so much fun being with them. They have taught me to live for the moment xx

Oh, how I love this and can relate to it, living in a 99% retired community, where the “senior” e-mails like this story go back and forth constantly. If your workshop could only be here, I’d be the first one to sign up!

  • Such lovely comments Dot. I know I would love to be there too my friend :))
