Watercolor and acrylic on Bockinford paper
9″ × 12″

My inspiration is a poem by Eileen D. Moeller

skin is
smooth and
she can be new
as an unopened
bud or earth ripe
and weathered. she’s
changeable alright and
inside her she carries a
secret, a small core tucked
away, a promise, you know, the
soft will always lead you on to the
sweet. and please don’t forget that a
woman is tender and easily bruised, or
that she’s prone to thinking sometimes
that if she’s really rotten, well then the
men’ll want to come buzzin’ around
her because somehow they know :
still they will be nourished. she
carries water, and she’s light
whenever she enters a
lake or river.
her hips are the curve of the shoreline, the sailboat. her roots go
on and on. once she plants herself she’ll let you into her branches,
hold you up to the sky, you can enter the curve of the shoreline,
the sailboat, you’ll get to taste what it’s all about.
