I nearly didn’t take this image. It had been a long time since I’d got up to take the sunrise, hours had passed, I was cold, my knees ached and I was so ready to go home. I almost packed the camera away thinking there would be nothing to capture once I was beyond the gap between the trees, the homeward straight. Luckily I didn’t and went to have a closer look at the old willow tree which was split by lightning a couple of years back. This was just a small part of the huge tree that once stood here, in its own natural hollow. The sculpture of the stump and the soft lines of the snow just begged to be taken together so I took a few shots and was really happy with how they turned out. This is the first one.
