This image was taken on the South Perth esplanade with Perth CBD esplanade in the background.
The couple are immigrants from the Phillipines and the seem so full of hope of life.
What I like about this image is the couple remind me of my parents and their friends from my childhood.
My parents were refugees from Europe and Aftica. They were refugees because of World War Two.
They were so full of hope for their futures and happy to be in Australia away from the troubles.
Looking at this couple you can see the same thing.
One thing I have to comment on is there was as extreme a backlash against the post war migrants as there is now against the boat people.
In their lives my parents and their friends were as useful a proud Australians as any one. So the attitude of the Australians of the time was as wrong then as it is now against migrants.
All migrants eventually find their own way in Australian Society. They include Indians, Chinese, Iranian, Afghans jews and so on, all it takes is time.
I remember stories of how dirty Yugoslavs were and greasy Greeks. Most of my friends were Italians they were called Wogs. Not that many people were like that but it was there to a substantial degree.
I also have to mention how kind people were to my family as well to paint a true picture of society. I guess that is the kind of society we live in now. Some hate and a lot of love. A mixed society lol
Because of my background I have to support refugees and migrants. I honestly can’t understand they backlash against them.
